Background | Pepsinogen (PG) is a precursor of pepsin, which is divided into two subgroups according to its biochemical properties and immunogenicity. The 1-5 components have the same immunogenicity and are called pepsinogen ⅰ (PG ⅰ), which is mainly secreted by the principal cells and mucinous neck cells of the fundus gland. Components 6 and 7, known as pepsinogen ⅱ (PG-ⅱ), are secreted by the principal cells and mucinous neck cells of the gastric fundus gland. Pg-ⅱ is also produced by mucinous neck cells of the cardia gland and pyloric gland of the antrum and the upper part of the duodenum. Normally, about 1% of PG enters the blood circulation through the capillary of gastric mucosa, and the PG that enters the blood circulation is very stable in the blood. Serum PG ⅰ and PG ⅱ reflect the number of glands and cells in gastric mucosa, and also indirectly reflect the secretory function of different parts of gastric mucosa. When pathological changes occur in gastric mucosa, serum PG content also changes. Therefore, monitoring the concentration of PG in serum can be used as a means to monitor the state of gastric mucosa. |
