Poly(methyl methacrylate), PMMA, or acrylic Particles and spheres are spherical polymer Particles that are a transparent thermoplastic synthesized from methyl methacrylate polymer. PMMA Particles are known for high impact and heat resistance, and good tensile and flexural strength. Poly(methyl methacrylate) or PMMA is less hydrophobic than polystyrene and should show reduced nonspecific protein and peptide binding. These strong yet lightweight polymer microspheres are often used as spacers, fillers, and reference particles for a variety of specialty applications in life sciences, medical technology, MEMS, optics and development of high performance composites.
PMMA Particles are available with Carboxy and Aldehyde surface functionalization for immobilization of biomolecules (proteins, antibodies, peptides, oligonucleotides, etc.) as well as with Streptavidin-functionalized surface for the binding of biotinylated molecules.
